Training the core (aka ab training) has far more to do with total body movements than worthless crunches and sit ups.  Ask ANY top level strength coach at a major college or pro team and he will tell you, laying on the floor doing sit ups and crunches for a strong, ripped 6-pack is a total waste of time.

A quality core workout requires BIG movements, exercises that hit your glutes, lower back, obliques, transverse abdominals, psoas major and multifidus.
