Outdated Exercise <--- Do you still do this?
Published: Mon, 12/28/15
I feel so...what's the word? Oh yeah, nauseous.
How many of us used to fall into that cycle of crunches until we just
about vomited? Many of us did and you know, things change and
so do we.
That being said, we've come a long way in the world of exercise...
realizing what causes back pain and how to actually build a super
strong 6 pack that makes others jealous.
The redundancy of sit ups and crunches has finally taken a back seat to
movements like mountain climbers, burpees, TRX planks and stability
ball tucks.
We've gone from flexion overload to maintaining a strong, long spine
for periods of time and contracting all of the muscles in the body...thus
preserving the lower back and adding quality muscle mass to the deep
layers of the abdominal wall.
The Low Plank is a front runner in the Abs Department and
combined with some oblique tucks, you can't go wrong.
The key is to squeeze not only the abs but also the glutes, lats,
and quads creating a pillar of strength that demands focus and control.
Our bodies are almost always in a state of flex...meaning we are sitting
most times throughout the day so the last thing we need more of is...
you guessed it, flexion. A variety of planking movements does more for
developing the abdomen and at the same time, relieves the back from
unnecessary harm.
-Try doing 3 rounds of low planks with oblique tucks.
-Completing 5-10 reps on each side.
You can perform them all on one side and switch or alternate. This
exercise is phenomenal at getting your core muscles rock hard and
making your torso super strong!
