dont' be normal
Published: Fri, 06/06/14
In September of 2001 I returned home to the United States
after blowing out my knee playing football in Sweden.
It was time to hang up the cleats for good. My college career
and my short stint playing in Europe was very exciting but that
chapter of my life had slammed shut.
I loved playing football, but even more so I loved training and
working out to play football.
Now that football was done it was time to get "realistic" and get
a "normal" job to pay the bills... and that's exactly what I did (sigh).
For almost a year I worked as a web guy for a non-profit
organization in Danbury, CT.
The job was fine. According to most people you could argue
that I was successful, but overall I just wasn't happy. Something
was missing and I was feeling frustrated and insignificant.
Deep down I knew that what I was doing wasn't my calling,
and that I could serve the world in a much great capacity.
That's when I quit my job cold turkey, and moved to Boston. My
web site (Critical Bench) that I would spend time nurturing on
nights and weekends after getting off work provided me enough
money to make the move.
nights and weekends after getting off work provided me enough
money to make the move.
It didn't take me long to figure out I should work as a personal
trainer since I had such a strong passion for fitness. This would
also allow me time to continue working on the Web site and it's
mission (more on that in a minute).
Unfortunately well meaning parents, relatives, teachers and friends
weren't very supportive at first because the they didn't see what I
was doing as something practical that was leading anywhere.
But it didn't matter, I was finally starting to feel significant!
---------------------------------------------------------
"Significance is when your God-given talents, abilities
and skills collide with your passions!" - John M. Rowley
---------------------------------------------------------
You see I had gained new significance in the way I was serving
the world.
As John Rowley explains in his book "The Power of Positive Fitness"
the key is to incorporate your why with your what and how.
Our what and how is usually our career path. Our why is "why"
we are here and this is where our talents, abilities, skills and passion
lie.
Like John, I'm convinced that our talents, abilities, skills and passions
are put in us by God so that we can serve the world with our unique
gifts.
Once I realized this, I found true significance.
Look I may not be the world's best bodybuilder, a pro athlete or
a genius scientist. However I am gifted in finding these people and
sharing their message with the world in a way that everyone can
understand.
That's how I'm able to mix my passion for fitness and working out
with my God given abilities to serve the world with Critical Bench
Publishing.
To sum it all up, I have found significance in my life by taking my
passion for fitness and combining it with my talents and abilities
to serve the world.
It's a great lesson from John Rowley's book, "The Power of Positive
Fitness". I just finished reading this book and I like it so much and
find it so helpful I called up the publisher and ordered 300 hard copies.
They are sitting in my office right now and next week I'm going to
be mailing a FREE copy out to 300 action takers.
Yes the book is about fitness and working out, but it's about so much
more than that. Maybe it can help you realize your true potential.
It will help you maximize your physical, mental and spiritual health.
