The 2 WAYS TO CUT WEIGHT

1.  The first way is lose fat for several weeks prior to competition.
 
2.  The second way is to cut water weight.  This process starts
a week before the competition to prime your body and the final
stages of dehydration take place 24-hours prior to weigh in.

WHY DO GUYS CUT WEIGHT? 
----------------------------

Cutting weight plain and simple is the science of rapidly losing
weight prior to a sporting competition.  Usually an athlete will
want to cut weight in order to qualify for a lighter weight class.

In sports like powerlifting, strongman, MMA, boxing and other
combat sports the larger athlete usually has either a leverage

or power advantage over competitors that have a lower body
weight.

It only makes sense that if someone can qualify for a lower
weight class and put all the weight back on that they cut, they'll
get to compete against a much smaller opponent that didn't cut 
weight.

Sounds great right?  Not so fast, hold on just a sec.

THERE'S A LOT THAT CAN GO WRONG

It's hard to get reliable advice on this topic because if done 
incorrectly it can be very dangerous.
 
In fact if you mess up the weight cut or the rehydration for
that matter you put yourself at a disadvantage over the 
competition.
 
Common Mistakes During Cutting:
 
-Eliminating food intake too soon.
-Over dosing on water pills.
-Spending the wrong amount of time in the sauna.
-Trying to lose water with physical activity << The worst mistake
-Talking laxatives at the wrong time.
-Not taking supplements to fuel your brain & mood.

Common Mistakes Reconstituting or Rehydrating: 

-Consuming the wrong electrolyte drinks packed with sodium.
-Sleeping through meal times.
-Eating the wrong types of foods based on cravings.
-Refusal to force feed and hydrate.
-Not getting enough potassium leading to cramping.

both personally cut over 15 lbs in 24-hours to make weight. 
Elliott did so prior to winning his pro card in strongman and I've
done it to set a PR total in powerlifting
